About Dekkit

DEKKIT Product range and Tools

DEKKIT decking material was designed for both professionals and DIY enthusiasts alike. It can be welded into panels in the work shop to be retro fitted, or can be used for on-site installation where the decking pieces are being applied directly to the boat. Boat owners, restorers and custom deck installers will appreciate the ease of installation with DEKKIT and will be impressed with the outstanding results.

DEKKIT uses the traditional wood working method of overlapping joinery. Each edge of the material is formed to overlap the adjoining edge in a tight seam as each length of the material is laid on the boat. This new design has proven far easier to install than other “tongue and groove” materials and allows the adhesive to be pushed into the seam for a more cohesive and watertight deck. The average “handyman” will appreciate that the material cuts easily with a sharp utility knife and is worked with basic hand tools.

DEKKIT offers a range of training courses which are aimed at both the DIY enthusiast and the professional installer. Single day courses covering basic patterning, templating, panel making (both welded or glued) are available throughout the year subject to demand to assist the would be DIY installer. A slightly longer and involved course is offered covering the same subject matter as above but is in more detail and is aimed at those who may wish to seek a career fitting DEKKIT within the marine industry (we offer total support and advice for those wishing to set up in business). We also offer a comprehensive course either in house or on site to the professional boat builder/distributor who wishes to handle their own complete DEKKIT installation.

DEKKIT can be applied to GRP, metal or timber. Whether fitting on deck or Fitting pre-made panels it is a very straight forward process. We have been using a single pack polymer adhesive which has proved to be extremely reliable and offers great advantages for the fitter, in that it will not go off like a two part adhesive in a short space of time, and not being a contact adhesive it allows advantage of being able to ‘slide’ a panel into place after contact.

The adhesive/sealant is supplied in a 600ml foil “sausage” we recommend that you use the Adhesive applicator Gun for ease and cleanliness, however the sausages can also be cut and squeezed like a tube of toothpaste. The adhesive is spread using a notched trowel and once the decking is laid in place the air is rolled out using a flooring type roller (see price list).

Open seams are then filled with black caulking which comes in a 190ml cartridge. The caulk seams are smoothed flush with the deck and finish sanded once cured.
